Just saw this on Law and Order SVU. Is it true that it’s illegal in the US because drug companies would rather make money off drugs that won’t help Opiate addiction when this will?

Addiction, be it with drugs or alcohol is a subtle yet serious problem in our society today. The number of drug abusers and addicts are increasing. We may not see it as a problem as long as they are not disturbing other people. However, we may not also be aware of the fact that through addiction or drug abuse, the person is hurting and destroying his/her own self.
