Donna,

I believe that going to a live Al Anon meeting would really be helpful to you. As difficult as it might be to walk into a room full of strangers, I really suggest you try it.

However there is a website that promotes an online community of people who share about their addiction. It's a free 12 Step Community at 12 Step Recovery

I hope these are helpful to you.

The love of my life I believe to be an alcoholic. We've been married for 41 years, have two grown children and 3 lovely grandchildren. My married life has been a tremendous roller coaster of highs (when he was sober) and lows. My prayer is always that he will change, seek treatment and realize the toll on his life and the rest of us left in the wake. At 63, I am fairly certain that will not happen. I truly do not want to deal with it any longer. Is there a online group that I can atleast share my feelings with?

Nikki,

I am so glad to see someone else voicing the same concerns I have. My husband is a 32 yr old disabled vet and has been prescribed numerous cocktails of narcotics over the past 6 years. I truly understand how concerned you are. We are currently looking into the effect of the narcotics on his severely low testosterone and vitamin D deficiency. I was wondering if you had received any information and concrete evidence to support your beliefs. We are fighting everyday to get help for him. We have a two sons, 12 and 1, and his constant fatigue and chronic pain make life extremely difficult. He has just last week been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia as well. I don't know if there is any relevance with that or not, but it just seems like it's just another straw for the camel's back.

Nikki,

Try calling our help number. We work with treatment centers that might be able to give you some more concrete help, besides just reporting on the drug abuse issues we find.

Good luck, and we wish you and your brother the best.

The Harsh Reality of Drug Addiction richardmclaughlin007 — January 18, 2009 — after 11 months of sobriety from drug addiction, in 7 short days this man hits the depths of despair and insanity.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuNWCPDrJsM

This video was shot in Vancouvers downtown eastside by the narrator it is quite extreme, It shows how common place and and readily available drugs are and how people can succomb to a extreme physical reaction from lack of sleep, nutrition and dehydration. This video was made for many different reasons, one being educational the other as mentioned earlier it's common place here in Vancouver, in any other city or town in North America this man would have recieved immediate medical attention but here in Vancouver both the police and ambulance just drive by. If you do not belive me come on down and see our little human circus slash "HARM REDUCTION EXPERIMENT"
This man was spotted two hours later sleeping on a concrete curb as his pillow.
Both the narrator and producer of this video have had spent many years struggling with addiction and have spent hard time in Vancouvers "NOTORIOUS" downtown eastside.
Today they have escaped and are clean and sober and now dedicate there lives to those who still suffer from "THE HARSH REALITY OF ADDICTION"

My brother in law has severe injuries from serving 2 tours in Iraq to just give you an idea of his history.
However instead of pain management the military starting pushing narcotic pain relievers down his throat. The more numb he was the longer tour spent over there. Eventually after being homebound he continued using them switching up between perks, Vicodin etc.... on top of that he was diagnosed w PTSD adding several more pills into his toxic pill cocktail. He\'s been declared 80% disabled and receives VA pay for that as well as a full time good paying job. He spends a lot of spare money on what i think are narcotics... now he has Rheumatoid Arthritis, almost no vitamin d, low testosterone and severe colon issue as well as weak stomach problems. I believe its all subject from abuse of the pain pills and hes only 29 years old.
Is this just a miraculous coincidence or are my suspicions right on target?? I\'ve approached family about my concerns and theyve given up :(
I am terrified he will continue on this deadly regimen and end up oding or die in his sleep.
Idk of any sites to do some research on and make sure I have facts and show my concern. Coming from me I should know first hand I suffer from some pretty debilitating illnesses myself and know that prescribed medication can be enticing and seem very safe since its legally prescribed to you. Please i need some information and documentation on this?!?!? Anyone???

I had a horrible time getting off suboxone, even after getting down to .5mg's a day the withdrawal process was still long and painful. Made my daily life very difficult to maintain!

The new research on the NMDA pathways in the brain and their involvement in habit forming and addiction are very interesting. Especially how substances like Ibogaine start a feedback loop of GDNF which helps to restore this pathways.
